  • I really like Paul Personne’s early records. He is, in my opinion, the only one who was capable of feeding on the blues rock baggage and make it French without betraying the original material. Sadly his early records from the 80s - for my money - are the best, and he rarely if ever was featured on TV back then… This is the best I could find. It’s a much better rendition of Barjo Land than subsequent ones!

  • I only recently discovered Zachary Richard with ‘La ballade de DL-8-153’. The original on Lumière dans le Noir is more gypsy jazz, and more poignant (I think) but this live version is pretty amazing nonetheless…
